Slovanske Podposujici Jednoty Statu Texas Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas S.P.J.S.T. Rest Homes, located in Taylor and Needville, Texas, were opened as a result of the forward vision of members of various S.P.J.S.T. fraternal lodges and their district directors. They wanted to create an organization whose express purpose would be to provide places where elderly and infirm Slavonic peoples could go for fraternity and nursing care. Their first steps involved the election of a Board of Directors and the formation of a not-for-profit corporation to be named S.P.J.S.T. Rest Homes, Inc. The decision was made to place S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. 1 in Central Texas because of the areas’ high concentration of Czech people. Taylor was selected to become the site and the facility was opened in 1957 with a licensed capacity of seventy-two beds. S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. 2 was placed in Needville, Texas as a result of the efforts of Lodge #81 and the Ladd Stavinoha family. It opened in 1970 and licensed for fifty-eight beds. S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living in Taylor is the newest addition to our family and is designed to meet the growing need for individuals needing assistance and supervision with the activities of daily living. |
